Quote/Ode to Those who have Fallen Short

I said a while back that I was going to start posting blogs about the songs on the upcoming record. Well, I've finally decided to start doing that. These blogs are just kind of going to be about how these songs came to be and what they're about, so on, so forth. Hope you get something out of it. Here are the first two tracks.

Quote

This is the "intro" track to the album. In a world where everyone seems to do introductory tracks, I wanted to do something a bit different. Don't get me wrong, it's not the most original thing ever done by any means but I think we achieved a pretty cool concept. I wanted to make the intro something that would tie the album together as one, make it feel united. It starts with a whole slew of synth stuff and continues with the introduction of some guitars and percussion. The vocals also provide a melody that shows up throughout the album. The lyrics come in with a slightly altered chorus of the "title" track of the album, "Beauty Not So Fair". The ending drops off into silence, setting up for the beginning of opening song. It's called "Quote" because my friend AnnaJo has said that she wishes her first word would've been "quote" so that her last word could be "unquote". I thought that was a cool concept and since this is the first track on the first TinT album, I (with her permission) decided to name it that. If TinT ever records an album that we know is our last, the last track on that one will be "Unquote".

Ode to Those who have Fallen Short

This is a song that I wrote almost two years ago. When it’s been that long since you wrote something, it’s sort of hard to remember exactly what you were thinking when you wrote it. I just remember our old keyboard player Chad showing me a guitar riff that he wrote and, thinking it was really good, I decided to turn it into something. One thing I really like about this song is the way it’s set up. It’s not you’re normal verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus setup. I really like the flow.

As far as the subject matter, it’s pretty straightforward. It’s based around Romans 3:23 (for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God) which is a verse that I hear all of the time, but I’m not sure it sinks in. No one is good compared to God. We should stop trying to compare ourselves to one another when none of that even matters.

The song starts with listing some of the ways we fall short. One thing that gets me a lot is treating Jesus like a plate of armor that protects us from sin and therefore using that as an excuse for not acting like I should (because I’m covered). Or maybe my excuse is “God will come through no matter how I act” which is true, but still no excuse. Romans 3:8 says that we might as well say “let’s do something evil so that something good will come of it”. It makes more sense to just do something good to begin with. As Christians it sort of feels like that once we’ve accepted the truth that is Jesus, we label him as someone who’s only there to accept punishment for our crimes (even though we know there’s so much more to Him)

The second verse talks about how we point fingers at each other and how our “church” lives sometimes become nothing more than games with man-made rules for everyone to follow. The verse shifts gears a bit and talks about a personal struggle of mine. You see, I make it a point to really look at the things that the general “Christian” public sees as good or evil and decide for myself. This is good in some ways, I don’t let myself get freaked out by the world because I still have to live in it. When we let everything on TV shock us, those who aren’t Christians get a message of separation and arrogance instead of righteousness. Plus, sometimes we just have to take things at face value and not read to much into them. However, sometimes I use that as an excuse to be exposed to things that I maybe shouldn’t. How much is too much? Where’s that happy medium? Don’t ask me. I’m working on it.

The song continues into the chorus with a sort of realization that we just need to trust that God knows what He’s doing even if we don’t. We have to strive to do what we should be doing, but everyone gets lost. Everyone falls short. The problem is we don’t give God enough credit sometimes. We treat him like He has a history of not coming through or something. This holds us back in a lot of ways. I know this sounds cliché, but we’re not promised tomorrow. I think the sooner we begin to trust him on a regular basis, the sooner we can fully live our purpose.

The bridge falls into more of a reflective mood and it’s about a personal struggle of mine. I have big dreams, and sometimes I get a little carried away. Maybe I plan ahead without letting God in on it, therefore I just fall on my face. Countless times I’ve said “this is going to happen” or “that is going to happen” or “this record’s going to come out then” when I really don’t have as much control over these things as I think I do. The truth is, I’m not good enough. The only thing that separates me from the people that don’t have Jesus is just that; Jesus. We’re so concerned about what we have, what we don’t have, how we’re too young or too old that we sell God short of what he can do with a life. I guess the challenge that this song tries to get across is: Not one of us is better than the other. We may have our personal strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately we all fall short. If this wasn't the case, Jesus would not have had to die for us. So, let’s get that behind us and look ahead at our purpose. A purpose that isn’t about our ability, but about Him and what He’s blessed us with.

Okay, I'll be back. (Imagine that in an Arnold Schwarnzenegger voice)

Still funny....after 20 years....still funny.

I have no idea about the title of this blog...

tonight michael, nathan and I went to see relient k/tobymac/family force 5 in dallas. Fantastic show. Not to mention our friend Jon Schneck of Relient K scored us the tickets. Those guys never disappoint. Lots of Christmas fun. If you've never seen them live, you should.

Speaking of Christmas, I haven't posted my Christmas list yet for this year. Maybe next post...

Main order of business, we posted some new music on myspace. Well...not new music, but updated music. If you get a chance go check it out and tell us what you think about how the record is coming along. Alright folks, thanks for reading.

We'll talk soon...

The Most Wonderful Time part 2

Hello friends. I guess it's getting to the point where it's almost too late to post a Christmas themed blog, but here it is.

Okay, so last year I posted what I've asked for and gotten in the past for Christmas, and I figured this year I'd post what I might currently ask for if I were to sit on Santa's lap. Just for fun, what I'll also do is tag some of you in the facebook version of this post and you guys can post your own Christmas list and tag your friends and so on. Okay, here goes:

Macbook Pro (I'll get one someday no matter what Santa says)
PRS Mira (guitar)
Fender '72 Telecaster (guitar)
HDTV (I'm behind the times, but so are all of my friends)
Blue-Ray Player
Some type of video camera
Complete collection of all of the TV shows that I watch on DVD (I'm missing a lot of smallville and Family Guy)
Girlfriend? (not really sure whether or not I really want that)

Okay enough of that.

This weekend me and a couple of my friends went and saw 7 Pounds. Pretty fantastic. It got terrible reviews, but it seems that most of the movies that I end up liking do. I kinda like that for some reason. Anyway, I know that most people will say that it's slow and that it drags on forever, but to me all of it was necessary.

Also my friends and I had some pretty encouraging talks about our ambitions, so that's always motivating and good.

Currently me and three of my little cousins are at my grandma's house playing some Rock Band 2. We have Christmas here tomorrow and then on my mom's side Christmas day.

Lastly, I've always been a huge fan of comic book mythology (superheroes and such) but I've never owned actual comic books except for the couple that I had when I was little. But, I know a lot about superheroes and I like them so I figured it would only make sense that I start reading comic books. Well, after a discussion about said topic my friend Jon suggested that I "go buy some comics". Later that night my friend Alex and I read the first story in my other friend Adam's copy of "The Death of Superman". I'm hooked. The problem is knowing where to start and where to go from there. I'll figure that out and pick a few up. I'll let you know how it goes.

Anyhow, have a merry Christmas. Santa comes tomorrow night. Creepy.

iPod, ePod, youPod, mePod

Hey everyone. Hope everyone had a great Christmas. I did for sure. I got some cool clothes and some cold cash, so not bad. Okay so, I realize that barely anyone reads this blog so blogging about anything useful is pretty....well....useless, but here goes anyway.

So, since before I even owned an iPod, I've known of many common misconceptions that people have about them. You'd think that by now most people would know how they worked and that CERTAINLY those who own them would know how they worked, but you'd be suprised. The following is a list of things that people have said to or in front of either me or my friend Alex. Most of these I've heard at least 5 times from different people and most of them were iPod owners. All within the last 2 years.

Disclaimer: I realize that most people will read this list and think "well obviously that's not true, everyone knows that", but like I said this is just something that a lot of people just don't get.

1. You have to have the exact same music library on your iPod that you do on your computer.

2. If I plug my iPod into someone else's iTunes, it will automatically erase all of the music on my iPod replace it with the music in their library

3. You have to download a song from iTunes in order to put it on your iPod

4. iTunes is no good

5. You can't drag and drop music from your iTunes library to your iPod

Alright so basically (in case you're one of those people who believes any of those things, which if you are you certainly aren't alone) 1,2 and 5 are solved by one thing. When you plug your iPod into your computer and you have iTunes open (7.0 or later) a screen should come up that has a picture of your iPod with it's name and how much space is available and such. If this screen doesn't come up, then just click on your iPod's name on the left hand side of iTunes and it will. Anyway, at the bottom of that screen you should see three check-boxes. One says "Automatically sync my iPod something or another", another says "Manually manage your music", and the other says something else about checked music. I strongly suggest manually managing your music. Also, when your iPod is new it should ask you if you want to do that or not. This way you can click on a song in your library (or anyone else's) and drag it over to your iPod's name and drop it on to your iPod. Then that song is on your iPod. You can do this with multiple songs at a time and it's extremely easy. Let me just say if this wasn't the case and if any of the above were true I wouldn't own an iPod. That's why it suprises me that so many people buy iPod's even though they think erasing all of your music is that easy. Plus, this is also a great thing if you don't have enough space on your iPod to hold all of the music on your computer.

Let me also say that when you change from automatic to manual you should probably do it on your computer (or the first computer you plugged your iPod into) so things will go as smoothly as possible. But, if for some reason you want to keep it on automatic, this doesn't mean your music will be erased if you plug it into another computer. What will happen is it will tell you "hey, this isn't the computer I'm used to. Do you want me to replace your music with the music on this computer?" and so on. Which is why I strongly recommend manual mode. Then you can go to your friends iTunes and swipe some new music for them. Not that I encourage stealing, but this is a great way to get introduced to some new music that you wouldn't otherwise buy. I'll say that for a time I thought manual was the only way to manage an iPod, and as far as I'm concerned it still is. So, if you didn't know this, maybe give it a try. I will say that apple should make this a bit clearer, but other than that it's easy to make the switch.

As for number 3, iTunes is like any other media software. Downloading is great, but you can just as easily rip a CD just like Media Player into your library and it converts it to itunes format automatically. As for number 4, give iTunes a chance. You can't tell me it's worse than Windows Media Player (Zing)

Sorry for the long nerdy blog. This is just something I hear all of the time. So basically, this blog makes me feel better if nothing else. I'm not sure if any of the above applies to the iPhone. It for sure applies to my iPod Touch though, so it should be the same difference.

Another thing I wanna clear up....

I've been invited on facebook to join a couple of different groups.

One was called "The Teletubbies are trying to take over the world"
Really? A group making fun of the Teletubbies? Are they still making episodes of that? A little late don't you think?

Another was called "The I Hate Barney Fanclub"
Really? A group making fun of Barney? Are they still making episodes of that? Once again, a little behind. Plus, I don't get the title. Is it a group for those who hate Barney? For those who hate Barney Fanclubs? I don't know. It just seems like that shouldn't be funny today. Maybe in 1998 when the funny thing to do was hate barney, but 10 years later?

Wow, I was really rude during this blog. Sorry, didn't mean to be. But I've decided to vent about stuff that "Grinds my gears" Peter Griffin style. Now that's funny.

Happy New Year!
-Dillon

P.S. For those of you reading this on Facebook: If you were tagged in this it simply means that you're one of my friends and I wanted to let you know that I've posted a new note. You may or may not be mentioned in it. Sorry to anyone who I left out, I'm forgetful.

Nobody likes you when you're 23

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!  I'm currently in arkansas doing some different things including hanging out with good friends and taking pictures of stuff for the TinT record cover.  I'm currently downloading the masters of the record.  Pretty exciting.
I had a hard time deciding the title of this post.  It was between the Blink-182 lyric that I used and "Here at 23 it's the same old me" from the Relient K song "Maintain Consciousness".  Not sure exactly what ended up being the deciding factor, but hopefully the one I chose doesn't end up being true.
See ya.

My Babysitter’s a Vampire – season 1 – review

To contact us Click HERE
Director: Various

First aired: 2011

Contains spoilers

This follows on from the pilot film and so will spoil the ending of that if you haven’t seen it.

By the end of the pilot we discovered that teen boys Ethan (Matthew Knight) and Benny (Atticus Dean Mitchell) are a seer and hereditary spellcaster respectively. Ethan, being banned from babysitting Jane (Ella Jonas Farlinger), his little sister, due to his general irresponsibility has a babysitter in the form of Sarah (Vanessa Morgan). Sarah is a fledgling vampire – in that she hasn’t fully turned because she hasn’t bit a human yet. This would be a problem because fledglings die if they don’t feed on a human within an allotted time-scale but Benny’s Grandma (Joan Gregson) is supplying a magically created blood substitute for her.

Benny, Rory and Ethan
All three go to the same school, as do the boys' friend Rory (Cameron Kennedy) and Sarah’s friend Erica (Kate Todd) both of whom were turned into full vampires in the pilot movie and who escaped the general slayage of the vampires in that vehicle. The series is, therefore, a school based light comedy, whose twenty minute or so episodes don’t outstay their welcome.

zompire
In each episode something supernatural is afoot – sometimes an event that the kids get embroiled in and sometimes as a result of poor judgement on behalf of Benny (who has a tendency to act first and think only when the impact is pointed out to him). As such we get a plethora of ghost, demon, zombie and werewolf tales all more or less sorted by the kids within the respective episode. For instance when a coffee mix-up causes anyone who drinks it to become a brain eating zombie, the kids work out that cold reverts them back to human. Incidentally, in that episode a vampire (Rory) is temporarily turned into a zombie… creating a zompire.

vampire nurse
Vampire-wise we do, of course, have our fledgling vampire and two full vampires. There is also an episode where nurses come to the school on a blood drive and these turn out to be vampires also. A territorial battle over the blood (and the mention of a vampire council, which is not mentioned thereafter) is solved because Ethan has H-deficient blood (something only 1 in a million has) and he is able to trade a pint for Erica and Rory’s safety. His blood is not mentioned again, surprisingly. In a vampire related moment we also get a witch who uses ritual to steal souls in order that she can maintain her youth and immortality.

Vanessa Morgan as Sarah
Indeed the episodes are more or less standalone until the last two of the series in which bad vampire Jesse (Joe Dinicol) returns and offers some inter-episode/film continuity (though it is a little too sparse to suggest an arc as such). In this we get the additional idea that rather than a bite turning, it is the presence of venom introduced during the bite that does. We also discover that a vampire’s mesmerism will work on a weaker vampire as well as a human.

soul sucking through witchcraft
As I say, the episodes didn’t overstay their welcome and the show was cute enough. The references to the show’s alternative Twilight series, Dusk, were still there. The episodes covered most of the supernatural areas one would expect and a couple of unusual ones such as the living doll (Georgina Reilly, Valemont) that could suck life energy out of people (turning them into dolls) to maintain her human form.

That said the series was still comedy light and probably narrowly suited to the target audience rather than having a wider age-group appeal. 5.5 out of 10.

The imdb page is here.

Honourable mention: Wrong Way

The Vampirologist Anthony Hogg posted a link (over at facebook) to a subtitled version of this short on YouTube. The short is, I think, Bulgarian and is based on a Stephen King short story.

That short story, One for the Road, is a story that centres on ’Salem’s Lot (post the events of the main novel) and whilst the snow storm of that story is replaced for a rain storm and the location is moved from New England to Bulgaria, this remains a very faithful rendition of the story. The film was directed by Georgi Yordanov and was uploaded (without subtitles) to YouTube in 2010.

It is narrated by Lazar, a restaurant owner, who reminisces about a man, Evgeni, who comes into the restaurant during a rainstorm. The stranger is soaked to the skin and asks to use the phone, but the lines are down. He then explains that he was travelling through a gorge when his car broke an axel near a village.

Evgeni
Lazar calls the village the dead village and explains that a water plant was meant to be built and so the village houses were bought out, but the plant was never built and the houses remained empty. When he discovers that Evgeni left his wife and child in the car he tells him that each house is said to contain a ghoul – a dead man who has not moved on. When it is suggested that he means vampires he, interestingly, states that vampires and werewolves are the same thing and that they call them ghouls. This was neatly merging these concepts as they often are in folklore.

into the dead village
The storm has ended and so the man returns to his car and Lazar picks up a gun and goes with him; but what will they find…

If you’ve read the story you will know, if not then the film is definitely worth a watch. At the time the article was written I could find no IMDb page.

Rock-a-Die Baby – review

Director: Bob Cook

Release date: 1989

Contains spoilers

Rock-a-Die Baby is a portmanteau film, but strangely it actually has two wraparounds. There is one concerning a band and then a second concerning a mother and daughter. The first seems to wrap-around the second. Sandwiched between them both are three stories.

The band wraparound starts with a man (Bob Cook) trying to sell a song from the band for a horror film. He assures the producer, who he is on the phone to, that the band are really good and can have a song together for the next day. The band are less than happy about this but he sends them off to a cemetery to get some atmosphere. As they arrive there is a woman standing in the cemetery with a tiger, as one does, she is credited as lady vampire (Dawn Hull).

Dawn Hull is the vampire lady
After each segment we cut to the cemetery for a quick moment of a (poor) song called spooky lady, some rock video stylings, lady vampire in a coffin occasionally and clips from the preceding story. The other wraparound sees a mother (Marilyn Hassett) waking up as her very young daughter (Lauren Woodland) watches Night of the Living Dead. The daughter asks for a story and the three tales are the three stories. The first is about soldiers in Vietnam and a woman (Patty Toy) who seems to be a weretiger, it is the best of the three stories. The second is about college kids throwing a fake séance to scare another and getting a real visitation from beyond the grave – it is a poor segment, with little point and worse effects.

she has no reflection
The third segment is our vampire segment and is, according to the mother, the story of when she and the daughter’s father (Dick Sargent) were first married. It starts off with the newlyweds, Eva and Adam, in a cab and telling the cabby (Fil Formicola) to take them to a lover’s lane and leave the meter running. He looks at his fornicating fare in the mirror and she has no reflection.

fangs are revealed later
So, having established that she is a vampire, we start discovering that her husband has no idea. She ‘accidentally’ breaks the mirror in the bedroom, starts when he picks up a log and mentions steak (thinking he means stake). She works in a blood bank, on the night-shift, but he wishes he could take her to the beach (her skin is too sensitive for that anyway) or a baseball game (she’s frightened of bats). The vampire references come thick and fast.

sucking a cut finger
When he cooks her a meal he uses garlic and makes her ill – he just assumes that she is allergic – and when he cuts his finger she takes great pleasure in sucking the wound, though she gets the blood type wrong. The entire section does actually seem a little pointless until we trip over a twist at the end, which makes it kind of cute overall – if entirely throwaway still.

mother and daughter
I won’t spoil the twist but will return to the mother and daughter wraparound. The set-up had seemed odd. We have a young girl (the actress was twelve) watching Night of the Living Dead and then telling her stories that seem inappropriate. Not just for the horror but the first story mentions rape and the second story begins with a game of strip poker. The girl, following the third story, is finally asleep but, as the mother leans in close, they both produce fangs – so she is a vampire girl.

Portmanteau films can struggle and this certainly did. The effects were poor and although I did like the first story, all things are relative and it was not the greatest piece of horror story or filmmaking ever.

It was nice, however, to see Dick Sargent and – as I said – the twist made the vampire story cute. The score is for that segment only. 4 out of 10.

First Impression: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

To contact us Click HERE
Timur Bekmambetov brought us the fantastic films Night Watch and Day Watch and returns to the theme of vampires in his adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

The film is, of course, an alternate history and as such more aspects of Lincoln’s life, beyond his slaying of vampires, are changed (including how many children he had) but the purist should take the film and story for what it is without getting hung up on biographical details. The film is not designed to be an accurate biopic, it is designed to be fun and that is exactly what it is.

Starting when Abe was young (Played young by Lux Haney-Jardine) we see him intervening when a man, Jack Barts (Marton Csokas), is handing (what I assumed to be) the parents of Abe’s friend Will (played young by Curtis Harris) over as slaves despite the fact that they are free. Barts whips at Will, missing the floored Abe, but as it is Abe’s father (Joseph Mawle) intervenes. Barts sacks Thomas Lincoln and demands payment of monies owed, when payment is refused he suggests there is more than one way to extract payment.

The night Abe is in the roof space not yet sleeping when Barts enters the family cabin. Through a crack in the boards Abe sees the man take the arm of Abe’s mother (Robin McLeavy) and, as he transforms into a monster and goes to bite her wrist, the young boy bolts back from his vantage point. The next day his mother is dying of some form of illness, something the doctor can’t recognise or treat and she dies. The turning rules in the film are not brilliantly explained. It seems that a bite will poison and kill the victim but the victim doesn’t necessarily come back. Later we hear that a pure soul won’t turn but then an offer is made to turn an innocent child already poisoned by a vampire bite. Clarity would have been nice.

Abe grows up (and is played as an adult by Benjamin Walker). He promised his father that he wouldn’t do anything stupid (in other words go after Barts) but after his father dies he feels freed from the promise. He gets drunk – noticed by Henry Sturgess (Dominic Cooper), who suggests that a young man only gets drunk like that for two reasons, to approach a girl or kill a man – and goes after Bart. His pistol fails and he ends up hold up in a shed whilst he tries to reload his pistol. He manages to shoot Bart in the eye but the body vanishes and he is attacked again (later we see that Abe destroyed his eye, which is replaced by the pistol’s ball, no regeneration seems to occur). Sturgess saves him and trains the young man to be a vampire hunter.

Sturgess is a vampire himself – something Abe does not discover until later – and he recruits vampire hunters as a vampire cannot kill another vampire… only the living can kill the dead. Vampires have a problem with sunlight, but the development of a sun screen has enabled them to go out into the day. Whether they should have just dropped the whole sunlight aspect, as it never comes into play, is debatable. So, rather than sunlight, the method of killing vampires seems to be decapitation or through the use of silver (silver bullets seem very efficient). The silver is given its power due to the association of 30 pieces of silver and the betrayal of Christ (though little else religious seems to come into play). Abe’s weapon of choice is an axe, the edge of which has been silvered. We see Abe chop a tree with an axe blow and the action is very much over the top.

Yet that over-the-top action is where the film really works. Abe is cast, essentially, as a super-hero and whilst he hasn’t powers, as such, the fighting skills are well above normal. It is this over-the-top action that carries the story and gives it its pace, and is ultimately the downfall of the film in its middle passage. The film drops the action – as Abe and Henry fall out and Abe enters politics with the aim of the abolition of slavery and marries Mary (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). This is necessary story wise but the change of pace drags a little. Fear not, the action will return for the finale.

Readers may recall a criticism I have of action sequences is the use of jerky, wobbly cameras, a technique that seems to hide any lack of confidence in a director’s ability to shoot action. Bekmambetov uses no such techniques and the action is fantastic. He does use effects a hell of a lot but that just fits in with the almost comic book feel of the film.

I really enjoyed this. Was it a great piece of cinema art? Of course not but it was a great comic-book-style action film that (despite dragging its heels a little in the middle) was great fun. Not as complex or thought provoking as Bekmambetov’s Watch films it was, nevertheless, brimming with style.

Music: Hank3

Last night we went to see Hank3 – Hank Williams III for the uninitiated – and watched an eclectic, enjoyable and long gig. Hank did a full country set, some psychobilly (or hellbilly, and the disappointing part of the gig was that he only did three tracks in this segment), doom metal and 3 bar ranch (speed metal guitar over cattle auctions). For the sheer effort put in we got our money’s worth and a big thanks to Hank for the night.

Highlight track for me was Ghost to a Ghost, from the album of the same name (an album which is well worth purchasingif you like your country definitely alternative), and so I thought I’d share… but of course we only feature tracks that mention vampires here at TMtV and this is no exception:

Watching rot gut whiskey
Drowning all my friends
Sailing on this lonely sea
Where no one wins
Built up to be left down
Is in my family tree
See the wolves and the vampires in their misery

Are you tired of spending hours searching for web codes only to find they are either expired or even contaminated with viruses. I am the type of online shopper who does not have time to search through hundreds of websites looking for the perfect code for a purchase online. I want to find a code quickly and easily so I can make my purchase and move on with my life.   The problem is the Internet is so saturated with online codes how does one even know who is trust-worthy. So I have taken the time to give a review to a  Promo Code site that ensures me that the codes on their site will work. Promotion Code.org saves me time and "money" by providing me with the must updated coupon codes and promotional codes available online.
To keep their codes fresh and updated Promotional Code.org uses a few different methods. They not only spot-check and update they also provide visitors a chance to help keep the codes current by allowing them to participate, either by listing codes, listing new shops or by providing feedback on success or failure of codes through voting. So for example if a code has not worked for lets say three days or has been voted a failure by a certain percentage, it is pulled off the site. Options for searching include Free Shipping Offers, current deals on specific holidays and events, you can also easily search their directory alphabetically or use their search bar. And don't forget to check the Promotion Code News for special latest deals.
One cool option I really like about Promotion Code is the choice to receive promo codes through email. You select and add your stores and you have an option of receiving individual emails or one single batched email with all your picks. So you are always aware when a new code is available for your favorite shops. And it's totally free!  In fact Promotion Code.org is free for anyone who would like to participate. Give it a try today!

I have been provided with this opportunity by Promo Code and I have received compensation for this post. However any opinions expressed above are my own. This blog post is the sole property and copyright of @autumnbluesreviews. Please do not copy without my permission. Thank you.

I think the Oransi Purifier sounds like a great idea. I use baking soda in the refrigerator and freezer, but that only works marginally well for getting rid of odors.
Congrats to Lisa!

Winner has 48 hours to get back to me before another winner is chosen.

Thank you to all who entered!

Game of Secrets by Dawn Tripp Review

GAME OF SECRETS
A Novelby Dawn Tripp

An emotionally woven wooden roller coaster ride.
As you partake in Game of Secrets you awaken your senses to a place and time that feels familiar as if you yourself have been there before. The characters in this novel feel frozen in time as emotions ripple through with every turned of the page. The main characters have so much in common yet they keep those emotions encased within themselves as if waiting for someone to come along and crack their shells. As the story unfolds it weaves back and forth between not only different characters but also the past and present, as different characters are place into the limelight.

The main characters consist of three women Jane, Marne her daughter and Ada Varick the former mistress of Jane's father. Jane meets weekly with Ada for a game of scrabble as the past unravels between them. While Marne, Jane's daughter who is in her 30's and now back living at home with mom and dad has given in to old feelings for Ray the son of Ada.

This prose is quite unique and not like I have ever come across before in a book. At first I was not even sure if I even liked this story as it took a few chapters for me to get used to the authors style. This is one book one needs to read slowly, if not you will surely miss the clues within the story and the meanings of the secrets brought together between past and present. It reinforced for me that sense that we are all somehow connected, each and every thought, emotion, word spoken has meaning no matter how insignificant each one may feel. Like a word on a scrabble board we are all woven in between place, time and others.

Summary:
In 1957, Jane Weld was eleven years old when her father Luce, a petty thief, disappeared. His skiff was found drifting near the marsh, empty except for his hunting coat and a box of shot-gun shells. No one in his small New England town knew for sure what happened until, three years later, his skull rolled out of a gravel bank by the river, a bullet hole in the temple. There were rumors he had been murdered by the jealous husband of his mistress, Ada Varick. Now, half a century later, Jane is still searching for the truth of her father's death, a mystery made more urgent by the unexpected romance that her willful daughter, Marne, has struck up with one of Ada's sons. As their love affair intensifies, Jane and Ada meet for a casual Friday board game that soon transforms into a cat-and-mouse game of words long left unspoken, dark secrets best left untold.
